ON THE ROAD IN POLAND

This morning we picked up our car at the Warsaw airport.  A brand new Nisson.  I have to admit, I was nervous at first, but as I started to drive through the city, I became comfortable pretty quickly.003At first there were city streets.  Then some freeway type facilities, and finally two lane suburban roads.  004The farther from the city, the narrower the roads became.012By the end of the day, we were on some pretty narrow sections.013We stopped at a fruit stand to stock up on apples.008009Our destination for the first day was

Łęczyca , Poland.

http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%81%C4%99czyca .  We found a quiet hotel on the edge of town and took a room.  015016we walked into town to get the lay of the land and discovered a quiet square with an historic castle.017018019The castle wasn’t open so we’ll have to go back tomorrow after we’ve visited a couple of small villages in the area where we think Marlene’s ancestors were living at one time.020022025After our walk including a stop at a grocery store, it was back to our hotel for dinner.  Now you have to understand that the proprietor speaks no English and we speak no Polish, but by using an English/Polish dictionary, I was able to communicate that we would like to eat at 6:00pm and that we would like fish, salad, and potatoes.  Here’s our dining room and the dinner we had.028029030 Not bad for our first day in the countryside.
