How about that. This is her birthday dinner. It's also the secret of how to reach this age and still be able to walk 13 miles in one day of site seeing in
Washington D. C. There is a bowl of snap peas, low fat Jarlsburg, some organic carrots, roasted garlic humus, and whole grain crackers. Also, the all important glass of red wine. On the other hand, birthday lunch was a little a little different. This is Sunday and to celebrate we took a drive to old town Alexandria, Virginia, walked the streets and stood in wonderment at the age of the buildings, found a wonderful restaurant called The Wharf and had a wonderful lunch. Marlene had crab stuffed flounder with rice and I had an Atlantic salmon with cold slaw and potato salad. All in all it was a wonderful day and one I know she will remember for a long time. To top it off, Carol and Dale called with greetings and Steve and family called from Indiana with birthday wishes. It doesn't get any better than this. Tomorrow we leave the DC area and head south. It's been a wonderful two weeks. On our last trip downtown, Friday, we visited the Supreme Court and had a wonderful 20 minute lecture about the history and functions of the court while sitting in the chamber where they meet. The Court was not in session. We walked around the Capitol and visited the American Indian Museum again and ended the day at the National Archives. We sat through an orientation and now have official "Research Cards" which allow us access to the records. So, tomorrow morning we're back on the Metro for one last trip downtown to do research where we have access to the actual papers dealing with Revolutionary War, Civil War, and land records. Marlene is really excited about this.
